Whenever we had talked to each other or to our family and friends about the possibility of our getting married, we had always referred to a Las Vegas Wedding. Drive-thru, thirty dollars, thirty minutes and if Elvis is there, so much the better. We both have a distaste regarding most ceremonies, orchestrated events, the social spotlight, and other such scenarios. We knew, too, that no matter how relaxed our friends and families might be, that to announce our intentions would inevitably lead to some amount of interrelational pre-wedding stress and hoopla. It is a societal certainty.
And so now that we had actually decided to get married, while we didn't know exactly what or where or how we would do things, we decided that it should be a secretive surprise right up to the last possible moment. |
